Enaex and Normet sign collaboration agreement to pilot innovative solutions in underground mining

Las Vegas, Nevada – 23rd of September 2024: Enaex, a leading blasting services provider for the mining industry including, among others, blasting agents and explosives, initiation systems, blasting engineering and design, mining blasting equipment, and digital solutions, and Normet, a world-leading technology company specializing in products, technologies, and services for underground mining, tunneling, and civil engineering, have announced a strategic collaboration. This alliance aims to introduce teleoperated technologies in underground mining by leveraging Normet’s expertise in underground equipment and Enaex’s advancements in explosives and initiation systems.

“This important milestone has a strong alignment with our purpose of humanize mining. Combining our presence on site and our tailor-made solutions with Normet’s know-how in equipment will certainly bring much value to our customers in the coming years. Through this strategic alliance we aim to continue improving safety in underground mining operations by taking the people away from the blasting face”, said Pablo Wallach, VP Innovation & Marketing at Enaex.

The collaboration will focus on piloting a charging solution for development and production charging activities in underground mining, combining Normet’s Charmec Revo® and Enaex’s DaveyTronic® electronic initiation systems to enhance safety in explosives charging. The goal is to move the underground blaster operator from the face of the blast, minimizing its exposure to highest risk zone.

"Charmec Revo is a groundbreaking innovation in underground mining safety, featuring a remote-controlled servo-robotic arm that automates explosives charging, keeping operators out of harm's way. Through our strategic collaboration with Enaex, we're combining our advanced underground equipment with their expertise in explosives and initiation systems to create a safer, more efficient solution for the industry. Modern explosive loading is a seamless combination of loading equipment, explosives, and an initiation system. Integration is essential to provide the safest possible work process for our customers", said Anssi Mykkänen, Product Line Director, Explosives Charging and Lifting & Installations at Normet. "We look forward to the first customer trial in early 2025 at an Australian mine, marking a significant step forward in underground mining safety."

The first milestone of this partnership, supported by Enaex’s field service, is set for the first quarter of 2025, with a trial in one of Australia’s largest underground mines.
